If you are a MMA fan, you have probably heard about the unfortunate events going on with Jason “Mayhem” Miller. I won’t go into details here. They are easy enough to find. The reason I am bringing this up is because it is a great example of why FIGHT CHURCH exists. We are here to help!

We realize that although pro MMA fighters can seem bigger than life, they are still just people like everyone else. On my recent trip back to Indiana, I spent a lot of time explaining this very thing.

I shared with individuals, pastors, and church groups that these athletes deal with the same struggles, problems and issues as regular people. But most have moved from somewhere else in the country or world to train and compete in this sport. Most of them have had to leave behind their friends, families and support systems. Then when they get to Vegas they often have to have more than one job to make ends meet while they train full time.

They have the added stress of working hard to obtain or retain a contract with a professional MMA organization. On top of that, Vegas offers the most unhealthy ways to relieve that stress.

FIGHT CHURCH is here to help these people with all that through basic pastoral care. It boils down to just being available. Every situation and circumstance is different and unique. Some of the people we minister to are believers and are in need of discipleship/accountability. Some are dealing with stress and just need someone to talk with. Others need prayer. Others are dealing with something very specific like a death or sickness in the family, marriage or relationship problems…

It is our honor and privilege to do our part to help! MMA is the platform… but people are our ministry…
