I just got back from a whirlwind Fight Church Trip to Indiana! Here is a little of what went down…

Wednesday, August 1st
I flew out of Vegas at 2am, landed at O’Hare in Chicago at 7am and caught the bus to Portage, IN. Had meetings with pastors and supporters throughout the day. Spoke in the Youth Service at Central Ave Church of God!

Thursday, August 2nd
Taped an episode of the PTL Show at the TBN affiliate in Indianapolis. This went super well. A local pastor and his wife interviewed me for 30 full minutes about FIGHT CHURCH. I will let you know how you can see it when it is available!
From there we headed to Fort Wayne where I did a “Missions Window” in Young Adult service at First Assembly of God.

Friday, August 3rd
I had a day of great meetings with pastors and supporters in Indianapolis. Then, I headed down to Sullivan, IN to speak at the Life Church Men’s Summit. What an incredible event! At a time when most churches struggle to have a Men’s Ministry at all, Life Church had 50+ men at this event that took place hours from their homes!

Saturday, August 4th
I had the privlege and honor of doing a wedding at Deep River Park in Hobart, IN for a Army buddy of my brother. After that, i had a couple of meetings and then headed to a UFC on FOX Viewing Party at Jay Berry’s house in Portage, Indiana.

Sunday, August 5th
Back down in the Indianapolis area to do a “Missions Window” in the AM services at Life Church in Fishers, IN. Had a great time! Then I was off to Current Church in Franklin, IN to hang with our friends there and do a “Missions Window”. Had an amazing time in an incredible service. Shared about FIGHT CHURCH and sold out of shirts!

Monday, August 6th
Spent the day in Kokomo, IN meeting with folks and sharing about FIGHT CHURCH!

Tuesday, August 7th
Spent the day in Terre Haute meeting with pastors and friends talking about FIGHT CHURCH!

Wednesday, August 8th
Spent the day in Fort Wayne, IN meeting with pastors and friends talking about FIGHT CHURCH more! That night I spoke for a big youth event called FIGHT NIGHT at Grqace Gathering in New Haven, IN. I had a super time and would love to be a part of their future FIGHT NIGHT events!

Thursday, August 9th
I reconnected with a few folks, packed up and headed to South Bend, IN to fly back home to Vegas!

This was a crazy trip of zig zagging all over the state. It went very well… All the churches that I was able to connect with blessed us way more than expected. All the pastors and others that I was able to meet with were very supportive. I was encouraged and am super excited about the future and all the potential ministry partnerships that could come form this trip.

I hope to plan another trip to Indiana in the spring!

If you would like more details about this adventure, please call or e-mail me!

Quick interviewette w/ UFC fighter Darren Elkins!

I had a chance to speak with up and coming UFC fighter Darren Elkins today.  We were a little pressed for time, but I was able to check some facts and satisfy a couple of personal curiosities.  All in all, it was a great talk, but not really an epic size interview.  So, I am going to wet your whistle with an “extended introduction” of Darren and in a few weeks when he is here in Vegas, I will try hard to get some training video or pics to go with a full-blown, epic interview.

Darren “the Damage” Elkins is from my hometown of Portage, Indiana!  He has a professional record of 11 wins and 2 loses.  He is a tough, well-rounded fighter with 4 wins coming by KO/TKO and 5 by SUB with only 2 by DEC.  His UFC record is 1 and 1.

Like many great MMA fighters, Darren has a wrestling background.  He wrestled all through high school and in 2004 won a state championship.  He started fighting MMA because of the repeated prompting of a friend.  Currently, Darren spends time training at Duneland Vale Tudo in Hobart, IN and Carlson Gracie MMA in Merrillville, IN.

On Saturday, June 11th UFC 131 Lesnar vs. Dos Santos will broadcast live on pay-per-view from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC and Darren will be facing Michihiro Omigawa in his 3rd UFC fight.  Both fighters will be coming off a lose and will be hungry for a win.  I asked Darren what he knew about Omigawa and how they matched up.  He said that, “Omigawa is tough… has a judo background and has looked good in his last couple fights.”  He also said that, “It should be a great fight… we both like to mix it up… most MMA sources have Omigawa ranked in the top 8… I am training hard and am the bigger fighter, taller by a couple of inches!”   I agree, this is going to be an exciting fight!

To finish things up, I asked Darren what he does when he isn’t training or working. He told me that he likes to spend time with his wife and two children.  He likes to go fishing and hang out at the beach.

It turns out, Darren “the Damage” Elkins is a great guy!  I sure hope we are able to get together in a few weeks and talk some more.  I can’t wait to see to see his fight with Omigawa and wish him the very best!
